Friday we took a trip to Fleming Field in South St Paul to visit the Minnesota Wing of the Commemorative Air Force. A traveling educational program was there, showing a film about the Tuskegee Airmen. We watched the 15 minute or so movie (great job being the only two kids in there actually paying attention!!) and then went around to look at some of the airplanes.
The kids actually got to sit in a Vultee BT-13 Valiant, which was used as a primary trainer.
Mary got some instruction on flight controls from the crew chief
Russell looking like he’s ready to head to Top Gun
They had several planes there and some vehicles, too. The centerpiece of the Wing’s property is their P-51 which they have painted to mimic the ones used in World War II by the Tuskegee Airmen. Unfortunately it was getting some work done on it at the time…
Mary is out front there, since she wanted to sit in one of the “old chairs”. Those were the same kind of chairs we had at the reserve base when I was in the Navy…
Of course we had to have at least one slightly goofy picture:
If you have a chance, you can check out some of the info at the Red Tail Project.
Note: I’m actually posting this while hoping for the rain to go away. I’m supposed to be flying some training missions today for CAP, but it’s not looking good.
Update: Morning flight cancelled. Afternoon looking much better!
Thought I would put up some pictures from our June trip to the lake.
Mary and Russell get all wet
Mary forces a smile in classic fashion
And as usual, Russell is always ready with a pose…
I’m going to post some more, hopefully this week. We got a zoo trip, our new truck, a trip I took with the Civil Air Patrol…
Since the heat index is supposed to get to 105 today we tried to get the kids to burn off some energy early at Pump it Up.
Mary loves the slide and Russell spent a lot of time in the boxing ring. Not sure if he won the bout or not…
Once again Mary shows Dad up. Pink ultralight always gets the bass.
We love to fish! Thanks to Grampa Berg for the use of his boat.
The annual August fishing trip was a blast! Thanks in no small part to Grampa’s new boat and his very fancy gps trolling motor.
Here we are on one of the many stops along the way in Garrison, MN. This is the statue of a walleye along the shore of Mille Lacs. The picture is accurate, so if you are thinking it doesn’t seem to be the same color as the last walleye you caught on Mille Lacs, you are right.
Grampa came up on Sunday and went fishing with us for a couple hours. He ended up with the biggest fish for the weekend (on my secret bait).
Can’t wait to get up there again!
Both the Berg parents have gotten new jobs on the other side of the Twin Cities, so we’re on the move!
Mary seems pretty excited, so we hope the house sells quickly. Check it out and other listings on our broker’s page at Edina Realty (Pete Mergens).
Mary went trick-or-treating with our neighbor Noah. Quite a combination with Snow White and Darth Vader.
They were both very good about saying “trick or treat” and saying thank you. They had lots of fun together.
Russell Theodore Berg was born on November 9, 2005. He was 7 lbs, 4 oz and 19.5 in.
He is a little guy with lots of BIG grunts. I say he is going to be a tennis player because he grunts so much. We are enjoying spending time with him and getting to know him.
Mary got these princess jammies just before she turned 2 years old. She likes the Snow White story a lot!!
Mary walks around saying “I’m a princess.” We think she is a cutie patootie.
Reminder: More photos on our flickr site. Including Mary’s birthday party.
Mary’s favorite thing to do seems to be running. Usually with her arms flailing in the air.
This was taken at the Minnesota Zoo a couple of months ago. Most of the day was spent chasing her around and listening to her point and say “animals!” as best she could. We love the Zoo!
